Now this was a gorgeous cycling loop. Temperature was around freezing but luckily just few wind. As you see, the weather was ace. Clouds and fog stayed in the north 🌞
Also tried Knee warmers, which was just right! A very good buy!

Checking my fake holiday calendar, and I see it's Go For A Ride Day. I guess that could include cars, trains, skateboards, horses, and your favourite human, but let's focus on bicycles. Some people say Canada is too big to have a cycling culture and that's why there's only 1 bike for every 4 Canadians. But those are the people who have never heard of cities... or are named Doug Ford. Only 6% of Canadians are active commuters, meaning walking or biking, but it's more prevalent in Victoria (18.7%) and Halifax (12.3%). About one-third (34%) of neighbourhoods across Canada have no cycling infrastructure but some municipalities have invested in high-comfort bike lanes (dedicated & protected pathways), including Montréal (360 km), Vancouver (246 km), Edmonton (226 km) and Québec City (190 km).

Here's a radical transport idea...
For every two lane road, turn one lane into a segregated two lane cycle route, and make the other one a contraflow motor vehicle lane.
Watch many car drivers switch to cycling, and RTAs drop. Short distance travel times will be reduced for many.
And I say all this as both a car driver and a cycle rider.

It is cold in northern parts of the world. Studded tyres are awesome. If you do not have them, forgot to mount them or cannot afford to invest for your usage, I am here for you.
The number of times I have been caught out and unicycled on snow and ice is quite high. If I can do it, you can do it. Just take it easy! Oh and wear a helmet, even if you do not normally. That kind of a fall is exactly what they are for.

I was looking forward to cycling to work in the snow today, but alas, the road salt corroded the rear brake cable housing on my bike over Christmas, so the U8 it is. Just as I cancelled my #Deutschlandticket.

#cycling to work is great for science if it can be done without stress 🚲. I must have written some good chunks of my papers in my head while cycling to work. I come up with and flesh out the ideas while cycling, then just need to write them down when arriving - perfect! (It helps that my research is *about* cycling 😬)

Anxiety and depression are coming now and then. But compared to before, my mental, social and physical health are top-notch now.
My depression and anxiety are at the lowest. And I insist to focus on bycycle and sleeping to make my life even more stable.

I met a guy on last weekend’s ride that said “That’s my HSA bike” and when asked what that is he said “My doctor said I’ve got pre-diabetes and needed to get more exercise so I was able to use HSA funds to get this bike” and damn that’s a heck of a hack.

For several reasons I didn't do mountains this weekend. But I enjoyed a nice cozy loop in the vicinity to the #kirchsee.
At this spot I made a quick stop and thought: #silentsunday! Not even wind. Just a lake, view, mountains in the distance and me and my bike.

I started biking to work in August and it's now the end of November and I've done it 50 times in those 4 months.
That's 50 days I rode a bike instead of driving a car... about 650 miles by bike instead of car.

We did some cycling again. Very slow, but under clear blue sky! This time I tested recording when the camera was mounted on my new chest strap.
I think I like it! I remember when I once said that I'd feel stupid wearing such a chest strap with the camera mounted, but - to be honest: I don't care any more.
The result seems to be good. If I still like it in summer when I'm sweating? I don't know. But that's a problem for in a couple of months.

Finished a slow cycling loop. Result:
* Action cam chest strap is ace! More videos to come
* had the wrong gloves
* cold toes will liklely remain a problem. Even with hiking boots and neopren toe warmers ... Next attempt soon: warming inlay soles. (or Heated socks/soles ... )
