In case anyone needs to know, if you jostle an inflorescence of yarrow over a piece of white paper, very small (1 mm) wasps fall out. Most tend to hop around instead of flying away. During the past 5 months, the armed forces have sent questionnaires about the voluntary military service to 300k 18-year-old Germans.
90% of the men (who are required to fill out the form) answered immediately, further 6% after being reminded (the others are facing fines). ¼ of the replying men were initially interested, and ½ of them remained so after being called.
1500 of them were examined for their fitness for service, and 80% passed. ~530 were finally recruited.

An update on the status of the race for my House seat: When I last posted about it, the 2 Dems interested in running for it were Jason Quinno and Tom Brennan. However, they have decided to run for the floterial instead, so now Nate Giffard is running for my seat. I met him today, and he seems good. Since he is now the only Dem running for the seat, I'd like to officially endorse him for the position. He's running on a platform of housing, general affordability, and civil rights. Here's a link to his website:

"It was probably an accident the first time that humans went extinct. That's what multiple corporate databases had recorded, but of course those things are so distorted there's no guarantee that corroboration correlates with truth, especially across such a vast gulf of time. Then, probably because of some distorted echo of a science fiction genre filled with bullshit about human 'ingenuity' or other such crap, the corporations brought them back, at incredible technical expense. It wasn't an accident the second time the humans went extinct."

People like to read parts of posts and then reply to posts as if it doesn’t contain anything else than the part they were interested in.

Anybody else out there interested in reindustrializing Europe? I have a mad idea, and we might even be able to get EU funding for it.
Just fished "Coldwire" by Chloe Gong. An interesting and well-written cyberpunk thriller, even though it didn't have the social-imaginative elements I was looking for. I liked the reveal, and the overall construction, even if I felt that a lot of things were a bit off, and I'm not sure how I feel about an ultimately-optimistic-about-technical-possibilities view of the future right now, especially after reading Vinge's "A Deepness in the Sky" just recently which offers an idea of a future that's less optimistic (even if it dilutes that a bit towards the end).
Even if Gong's imagined future doesn't feel like it has anything interesting to say about either how to get to or sustain a more libratory society, it's a fun book and I'm definitely somewhat interested in the potential for a sequel.

There is a @… bot that replaces the old gup.pe home assistant bot.

There’s also @… - follow that and it will automatically boost everything you post with #homeassistant without you having to remember to mention the bot.
For those who don’t know, these bots exist because when you look for a a hashtag, your server only checks the posts that have been federated to it.
In order for a message to be federated to your server, the author (or one of the people boosting it) have to be followed by someone on your server. If no one touching the message is being followed, it’ll never get federated to your server and you won’t see it.
Hashtags are great for finding messages, but only messages that were federated to your server. They don’t help message propagation, but these bots will.

Would any of y'all be interested in an archival curation tool that can handle merging large collections of files?
I'm in the middle of designing something — git is inspiration but the wrong tool for this job — but that allows reintegrating diverged collections of materials, and propagating enough information that if you were to merge two folders, you'd get a relevant set of questions about the contents to successfully and meaningfully merge them.
It's aware of the fact that embedded metadata changes.
My goal is to make a library simple enough that one could embed it in an operating system's file browser to surface intelligent behavior, and that it could form the basis of media servers too, taking the scanning-and-recording-files duties.
