We play a lot of weddings at golf courses, and in the evenings they are some of the most serene places.

It requires quite a lot of remotes to fully be able to control my bedroom from the bed.
In order here, left to right:
Would be nice to control them all from a single panel really, but some are IR and some are RF and most have no spec or way to extract private keys pairing them to the receiver.
Could probably do without the air-mouse now the min-keyboard is there.
Never really need the speakers-control co the volume is controlled by the computer really. Just always on max.
Don't really need the headboard lights either since they're in reach to be done manually without the remote.

It's really annoying that there isn't a single standard for resetting ZigBee devices. Blinking lights and pressing buttons in random order. And have to open up my doorlock to get access to the button to reset it, so it yet again can communicate with my #homeassistant…

Fun side channel: you can tell if the lab lights are on or off by looking at power consumption of the PoE injector (olive green line near bottom of plot).
When the lab lights go out, the security cameras' IR illuminators go on, and the PoE load goes up by 10W or so.

We cleaned the drivetrains of our bikes today. Oh wow - I always forget that close-to-black is not the normal color 🙈
And in the evening we drove to dinner by bike. The laziness said "take the car", but we took the bike because - hey, why not. Getting some activity, we have the jackets and lights, ... We try to reduce our "convenience car drives" and it works quite well.
But hey, think about your lights! It's not just about seeing in the dark, but about being seen also in the twilight!

Today's installment of "let's see how much the world can be inshittified":
I got in the car to go to the cattery to pick up Luther after our week away. And when I put the indicators on ... no sound. Lights flashed both internally and externally, but no little "tick tick" rhythm to accompany them.
Anyway after I got home I looked at the Volvo website, where this is an apparently known problem.
To be slightly fair, following their process and rebooting the car (twice!) fixed things. But how on earth can they ship car software where you randomly need to reboot to keep things working. Especially as having an audio warning for the turn signal is (I believe) a legal requirement in the UK.

So as I've been droning on about, I'm doing lots of painting in the house. Next is the dining room. I have to live with the wood chip wallpaper but it's currently clinical white. I was all set to go with a sage tone to complement the fabulous orange dining chairs but I'm now leaning towards a fresh lemony colour as it's such a light sunny room. Current light is very Mum, a crystal drop arrangement which will be going. Instead I am totally in love with these.

#whatImReading is Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s Take Me To Your Leader. It’s all his take on the old UFO/ET business. Mildly amusing. He covers the history and all the ins and outs of UFOlogy. But what I’ve never seen an answer to is, why do UFOs have running lights at all? Why would they need them? If they were hiding they wouldn’t have them for sure.

Things that ended up not being fixed in the final release of #macOS 27 Golden Gate:
- can't drag & drop windows into the bar in mission control to fullscreen them, this still worked even in the first beta of macOS 27 and then was suddenly gone
- weird lack of contrast at the bottom of the new traffic lights in light mode (dark mode looks fine)

I've noticed in the last five years or so a marked increase in drivers running red lights in my town (Swarthmore, Pennsylvania) and that many of the vehicles have illegal levels of window tinting. I'm wondering, is it that aggressive (male) drivers are likely to get illegal tinting ... or is it that the tinting induces lawlessness via the anonymity it provides? Or are both factors?
