The #roundhouse, now, at last, with electric lights (from its own solar panels).

The inside of the roundhouse; there are now three spotlights shining upwards into the conical wooden roof structure. The rafters are rough roundwood; the sarking between them is also, consciously, rough and waney edged. The lights, projected into the roof, give a warm glow to the space which is perfectly adequate for most purposes without being excessively bright.

A couple of days of just layering varnish and painting which didn't change anything visibly enough to bother with photos. But today, the windowed doors are starting to be completed. Three of them up.
This is what really makes the difference and makes it suddenly reminiscent of the Tardis.
Hopefully it'll be finished next week, they say. But they have said that before. The windowed doors have to be finished, the detailing to make the doors look panelled, handles, holes for cables, there's a bit of coving I decided to add to help carry wires and lights across the gap above the desk. More painting. Mirrors to be glued to doors.

Usually, we hunt down a tree in the Huron Manistee National Forest but this year we had to get one from a local tree farm so it’s not as scrawny as usual but still looks pretty nice donchathink?

After a few days with my OCuLink setup I made an observation:
I can put the machine to sleep but I can't wake it up anymore. When I try to resume it doesn't fully power on. Power LED lights up and fans start on the OCuLink dock but USB won't get initialized (I have a soundbar that reports "USB audio" whenever USB is reset) and the LED lighting of the UTM 780 XTX stays dark.

We're starting to set up outdoor Christmas lights and a bunch of the sockets are oxidized and not making good contact with the bulbs. So I need to get into the socket and scrub the contacts.

I'm not ok. The world seems not ok. But community is important and there is still value in doing things just because. Blinky lights are fun, so last weekend I helped wire some controller boxes for an upcoming Burning Man project (maybe unscruz too?)
(and I've just realized that I don't know the project's name or if it has one...)

Waymo says it "designed its driving software to be able to automatically navigate intersections when traffic lights are out, but sometimes [it] will ask for a confirmation from remote human monitors that they are proceeding safely[...] The numerous lights that were out resulted in a surge in such confirmation requests and delayed its vehicles clearing intersections, it said."
These vehicles aren't autonomous. This is a performance they're putting on.

Really surreal driving experience on the Frankfurter Allee today. Of course there was a lot of construction and rerouting, single lanes, delivery drivers blocking one etc. But the weirdest thing was the wandering traffic lights. Some workers where pushing the large temporary traffic lights around. It felt a bit like the bending cities in the movie "Inception"
