I hardly ever have people in my photos, because I don't WANT people there. But this scene was so different.
The fog was just thick enough to see the person, yet I didn't feel like the person was "near". It all just felt so distant.

21 kWh generation yesterday despite significant clouds, another new record. I think we actually got pretty much the optimal conditions in the afternoon: no clouds around the sun (so direct sunlight hits some of the panels where it's not shaded by trees), but clouds in most of the rest of the sky sending additional scattered light down towards the panels not pointed right at the sun.
We hit a peak of 4.4 kW generation, not quite enough to make up for our 5.6 kW demand at that moment…

Some of the trees in my neighborhood have decided it's spring. Some of the neighbors still have winter-holiday lights up to decorate their houses. They're both wrong -- those trees' blossoms are probably going to be frozen before the month's out, and it is long past time to have removed any winter-holiday outdoor lighting.

To answer this question, researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed a high-resolution CO₂ biogenic flux model. Their findings show that, on average, around 2% of Munich's annual urban emissions are compensated by vegetation. Abstract: We study \emph{local computation algorithms (LCAs)} for constructing spanning trees. In this setting, the goal is to locally determine, for each edge $ e \in E $, whether it belongs to a spanning tree $ T $ of the input graph $ G $, where $ T $ is defined implicitly by $ G $ and the randomness of the algorithm. It is known that LCAs for spanning trees do not exist in general graphs, even for simple graph families. We identify a natural and well-studied class of graphs -- \emph{expander graphs} -- that do admit \emph{sublinear-time} LCAs for spanning trees. This is perhaps surprising, as previous work on expanders only succeeded in designing LCAs for \emph{sparse spanning subgraphs}, rather than full spanning trees. We design an LCA with probe complexity $ O\left(\sqrt{n}\left(\frac{\log^2 n}{\phi^2} d\right)\right)$ for graphs with conductance at least $ \phi $ and maximum degree at most $ d $ (not necessarily constant), which is nearly optimal when $\phi$ and $d$ are constants, since $\Omega(\sqrt{n})$ probes are necessary even for expanders. Next, we show that for the natural class of \emph{\ER graphs} $ G(n, p) $ with $ np = n^{\delta} $ for any constant $ \delta > 0 $ (which are expanders with high probability), the $ \sqrt{n} $ lower bound can be bypassed. Specifically, we give an \emph{average-case} LCA for such graphs with probe complexity $ \tilde{O}(\sqrt{n^{1 - \delta}})$.
Finally, we extend our techniques to design LCAs for the \emph{minimum spanning tree (MST)} problem on weighted expander graphs. Specifically, given a $d$-regular unweighted graph $\bar{G}$ with sufficiently strong expansion, we consider the weighted graph $G$ obtained by assigning to each edge an independent and uniform random weight from $\{1,\ldots,W\}$, where $W = O(d)$. We show that there exists an LCA that is consistent with an exact MST of $G$, with probe complexity $\tilde{O}(\sqrt{n}d^2)$.

Back story: In some parts of Vancouver, if you’re putting up a new building (typically condo/retail) you can get tax breaks or more square feet or some such bonus if you preserve the original facade. This place was torn down quite a while ago but the facade, propped up by the metal framework, remains. A policy misfire in this case because it was a really crappy brick frontage and would not be missed.

Just a little one and a half hour walk nearby before it was supposed to be raining (and rugby starts).
It was a nice walk and good to be out. Strangely, my old GPS device refused to get a location despite having lots of satellites. Just 10min before coming back (after a couple of restarts and taking the batteries out and back in) it worked.
Fortunately, I only had it with me to test if my heart rate monitor also connects to it.

On location I was already pretty sure that these would be monochromes. but I struggled to really see motives at first. Luckily I went there just to take photos, not hiking.
Sometimes I just stood there for a while and was looking around to ... see whats around.
