In a saner environment, we’d be having a reasonable conversation about that: in what ways, if any, can a machine that repeats contextual patterns with no sense of meaning augment humans thinking through tricky things? In ways can it mislead? When, if ever, is it worth the tradeoffs? the resource costs? etc etc.
Right now, the off-the-charts money and hype make that reasonable conversation impossible except perhaps in hushed corners. (Please do not have that argument in my replies. I am tired.)

I feel like computers are getting more like cars, or... how I view cars.
I do not need/want to spend a ton of money to get everything computerized car with ever sensor and camera and screen there is because I just don't think I need it or it's worth it for how much I drive.
I get that some people want that, and should probably have it, but I've got like 35 years of driving experience and I think I do okay.

Reminder: public protest is about visibility, not hiding. The power comes from people being willing to be visible, put their time on the line, and if needed, their bodies.
If you're going to start shit, maybe just ... don't. Direct action of the illegal sort requires careful planning and a tactical and strategic plan for why it will win. It happens sometimes, but it's not the mode, it's not the mode of the No Kings protests. This is a popular, public demonstration of outrage. It's legal (for now, and I hope, ever).
Yes, the police may try to kettle protesters and then trap them into curfew violations in places that have curfews. Masks won't save us from that where it happens. Just running the system with competent representation (and enough bodies to make it A Problem for the system) will.
We don't all need to be masked vigilantes at protests, and in a lot of cases, we need to be worried about the people masking up and starting shit. Remember that this is our opponents current tactic: masked, violent attacks. Don't look like them.

Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Army is fitting.
But the Army doesn’t need to celebrate Donald Trump.
That’s what’s about to transpire in the shadow of the White House
— a ridiculous, self-aggrandizing display that would look right at home in Moscow or Tiananmen Square.
It should not happen here. Ever.
Went out to see Stewart Lee doing his "Man Wulf" show at the Royal Festival hall.
Huge place. Ginormous! Easily the biggest place I've ever seen him perform.
He mocks the 60 million dollar netflix special offensive comedians doing their skits about how they're not allowed to say stuff, while actually saying the stuff they say you're not allowed to say and suffering nothing but millions of dollars for it.
There are things you're *actually* not allowed to say this month of course. But they will not say the things that can get you 14 years in jail: like pointing out the government's collaboration in a genocide and supporting those who oppose it.
The man wulf just mocks the weak instead.
And Stew does too, while by mocking the wolf inside him showing he could be them. Sort of. Only he can't, because even though it's enjoyable and funny and easy to deconstruct, it's still fundamentally inane.
Stew's voice and accents and singing and impersonations have improved considerably!
Great costume. See the show if you can.

In an earlier post I introduced the principle that there were four categories of side hustle. Let’s now talk about the second category.
2️⃣ 𝐒 – 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬: 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛
Ever thought about turning your skills into a business? Many side hustlers shift from Employee (E) to Self-Employed (S) – gaining more control but still relying on their own efforts.
🔹 Examples: Coaching, consulting, independent contractors, small-scale service businesses (photography, home repairs, etc.).
It's hilarious that someone tried to get into the Oasis gig with a ladder over the perimeter fence; it's got to have been the most heavily policed event here ever, didn't stand a chance. Heck, I doubt the pope got this many police.
Cannot even find where i read it but because i first read about an alleged breach of data from the Israeli government held by the Iranian government (on Mossad agents, recordings from secret cameras installed by Netanyahu to get compromising info on potential rivals, and much more, apparently all from a 2024 hack or leak) i have not been able to shake the twisted thought that the war Israel has now started against Iran is the new worst ever fallout for bad information security.

There's video in there you might want to full-screen.
The reasons I’m not at a #NoKings event today are the same reasons I’m not anywhere ever. Basically: I’ve got caregiving duties and a body that's not fit for hours on my feet.
Someone pick up a brick for the pigs but then think better of it in my place.
Two things can be true, even if they seem in opposition.
Hitler's race law was based on Jim Crow. Lebensraum was a direct translation of Manifest Destiny to Europe. The genocide of indigenous Americans was the inspiration and roadmap for the Holocaust. Red Summer was a genocide event. Chinese exclusion was a genocide event. The genocide of indigenous Americans continued, and the Dakota Access Pipeline is an example of that continuance.
And... Trumpian fascism is new phase of America that's markedly different than anything that anyone alive had ever experienced. Trump was inspired by Hitler's speeches and read them regularly. He admires Hitler and tries to emulate him. The language he used during his first campaign were developed by Neonazi groups like Aryan Brotherhood working with the KKK. His image was shaped by white and Christian nationalists, as is his platform today. He is a new and more dangerous kind of monster. The death camps are new. The scale of what's happening is new. The concentration of power is new.
These can both be true, and are.
#USPol
