We learned how to search instead of memorizing everything. And it’s the same with AI today - there’s no need to know everything by heart when AI can handle that for us.
AI is here to stay, and even if it evolves or gets replaced by something better, the transformation never stops. It’s perfectly fine to not have all the answers in your head because we can focus on more important things.

If the US starts participating in striking Iran the danger for further escalation is great. Because why would Iran in that case not attack oil fields, US bases in the Gulf states? Close the strait of Hormuz? It could then also try to unite everything that is extreme/radical in the muslim world against the US. What is missing is a scenario for de-escalation, also because Netanyahu is not interested in that is my impression.

I honestly don’t get how this is possible in 2025.
There’s no excuse for not having protected backups of everything critical. That was true 30 years ago, it is true today. Back then a bigger piece of the risk was hardware, less malware. Today it is unlikely for a disk failure to take your data because we all learned that RAID was worthwhile. But RAID is not a backup and backups today need to be resistant to intentional malicious deletion.

Player the #oblivionremastered version yesterday for a few hours. It brought back soo many great memories of how I setup a room with my brother all those years ago with a Xbox and a beamer to play the game for many hours.
Everything looked so amazing back then and the remaster does well at transporting a similar feeling. Though the game world is sometimes a bit bare when one looks …

The difference between Ukraine and Russia attacks is clear. Ukraine hits primarily military targets, Russia primarily civilian targets.
We should keep doing everything we can to help Ukraine defend it's civilian centers.

We need to stop reasoning about AI like this. Every time it can do something amazing it's "well that's just because its training data is so big, everything is bound to be in there."
Then, when it shows some limitation, it's "Well that's because it must not be in the training data".
It can show a shark jumping out of the moon through a computer screen. It can generate stuff that's not in the data. Also, hands counting down are obviously in t…

A screenshot from an Ars Technica article on Google's video AI. The paragraph below reads: Counting down with fingers is difficult for Veo 3, likely because it's not well-represented in the training data. Instead, hands are likely usually shown in a few positions like a fist, a five-finger open palm, a two-finger peace sign, and the number one.

Okay, I have my page on Codeberg as a guide on how to install Chimera Linux. That helps a lot (and it works 😄)
But 28 minutes for an install, everything updated, services started, some bells and whistles and a running terminal in a labwc session is still pretty good.
Off to the races!

Jippi!
I've repaired my Laptop! Or lets say I've replaced my cracked trackpad... With one of another colour, as I am only able to check compatibility on technical level, not a stylish one ... Well anyways I'll just say it has its own character.

The focus of this picture is to show the insides of the opened laptop, especially one thing I noticed all over it: There are markers for places certain screws go in (they differ between screw kind), which helped reassembly a lot!
A picture of the UEFI system test for the trackpad. It passed with everything checked.

Hidden note: It also works great in my Fedora install.
A picture of the trackpad and keyboard of the reassembled laptop. It reveals I ordered a whiteish trackpad for a black laptop.
A general picture of my workspace during the switch of trackpads. The opened laptop takes up most of the space, a lot of the rest is taken up by iFixit tools.

@emi200@sakurajima.moe GOG is my first platform of choice these days. They suck when it comes to GNU/Linux support, but Heroic with Wine or Proton largely fixes that.
I used to get everything physically, but I'll rarely be doing that going forward (with everything going digital, and even physical carts mandating a download for the game, or updates, or DLC...). As such, there's no longer any point prioritising games on console unless it's a really good exclusive — and even t…

In one of the more painful purchases I've done in a bit: just ordered 3 kits of Crucial DDR5 RAM for the MS-A2 servers. This will take them from 32GB -> 96GB which should work out a bit better for Proxmox. Unfortunately, my wallet is crying. If everything goes well, the RAM should get here just before the servers do.

Swapped the nVidia RTX 4070Ti with a nice, regular-sized AMD Radeon 9070 XT. Everything is running perfectly though I did have to reinstall Linux because I couldn't undo the futzing I did to clear up a few issues with Wayland with the 4070Ti. Not a huge deal, but still annoying. However, everything is fine and now just enjoying some gaming.

Welp, after breaking out the level and getting everything perpendicular: those shelves are absolutely driving me crazy as it still looks like everything is sloped. Ended up buying the full-length T2 shelves and that should fix the problem. If not then I will resort to more drastic measures.

A perfectly perpendicular minirack with shelves that are 100% not. It's so damned annoying...

The shelves came in, got them installed. Should be big enough to hold the MS-A2s, but if not I'll have to source the full length ones. Seems stable as well.

The rack with all of the shelves installed. Unfortunately due to the lighting it looks like everything is crooked which is very, very annoying...
