Hey friends! Due to the strong wind today morning we changed plans from cycling to #hiking.
We went in the same area as recently - and it was amazing! This view got better and better the higher we came.
The wind was strong but rather warm, that made it really a great day.

... for making animations simpler, the cycle period is the same, though.

OpenSCAD code for the wave interference 3D model, mesh generation portion only (i.e. excluding the boring polyhedron generation stuff).

At each mesh point, the distance from the wave origins is calculated. This distance is then used to determine the cycle and amplitude of the waves, which are added together to create height values.

For hours I hiked around Kurodani (黒谷) in Kyōto, literally "Black Valley," which is actually a large hill. From Japanese sources I found that the Pure Land (浄土宗) Buddhist saint Hōnen (法然上人) came down from Kurodani on Mt. We are just back from another nice 42km #cycling loop. Lots of headwind, lots of up and down and a little mistake in starting the tour at the highest point of the loop. The final, long ascent was a bit... Not so much fun.
But the views were just ace, more streets than yesterday but very few traffic! I was rather happy to have sun cream today.

Lunch in #Perth at Chop Chop BBQ. I had the KL char siu with noodles. Pretty good: the pork is more "caramely" than the HK equivalent I'm used to, and really properly cooked. Kind of strange how the soup came from the server, then the noodles arrived from the back kitchen, then finally the pork came from the guy at the chopping block.

The dishes: a large, round, black bowl containing fried mee with some vegetable garnish; a boat-shaped, black dish with sliced char siu, a cabbage salad and a small cup of chili sauce; a small, white, round bowl of tan coloured broth.

I’m in Farmville, Virginia this morning and found a popular route: the High Bridge Trail. It’s a successful rails-to-trails project that was totally worth extending my usual distance to see the bridge. Wow! #Running

The most exciting part is that this hints to a jet that would be hidden from our vantage point in our galaxy… but imagine that! We might be like M87, just at a smaller scale!

What astonishes me is that we already have so many available alternatives to reduce these emissions. Yes, long distance HGV, maritime and flight still need solutions, but a lot can already be done, especially with a range of EVs - from e-bikes & cargo e-bikes to BEVs to electric trains. (and better public transit - better headways and faster trips are needed in sooo many places)

Height profile of some recent walks, including today's partly successful to attempt Keeper Hill (Tipperary) from the northeast (route disappeared, cliffs nearby, rains came in, but we're going back).
It seems like most of our walks involve starting at the bottom, resolutely trudging up and then coming back down again.
