It started out as an exploratory bike ride in neighboring Botetourt County (locals pronounce it “bot-uh-tot”). The ride itself was a disaster of constantly getting lost in trying to connect from the Cherry Blossom Trail onto the Greenfield Trail. You have to take a few horse trails. What a morning and long day it was last week! Was already out & about for 3 hours when I got to this place, earlier mostly taking hundreds of images of the nearby (~500m away) Breslauer Hut and vicinity during sunrise... The first large (and loud) group of people already got up at 4AM, getting ready for climbing Wildspitze, another group left an hour later, as did I. Maintenance/repair works on the hut continued at 08:30, taking lots more pictures to document, interviewin…

There have been a few wonderful conjunct holidays this year, like Ramadan and Easter, but tomorrow for us is excellent indeed: Beltane/May Day and Buddha Pūrṇimā.
So here's the moon at dusk, viewed through our glorious ornamental cherry tree.

Steps Into The Unknown (2025)
(Actually a lie, since this was taken on the way back, just before sunset, but it was "into the unknown" a six hours earlier... These steps of the only partially secured path are leading up to around 100 meters above/along the increasingly more steep and narrow canyon. The rocks/slopes on the left go up almost another 2000m [out of view, of course]...)

Beam me back, Scotty!
(To one of my favorite places on this planet... We went till the foot of the 1000 meter tall vertical ice fall in the very back, past the beaten paths... #FootpathFriday and belated #ThrowbackThursday time)

A short section of path visible a few hundred meters above a large, but dying glacier. Snow and ice packed 4000 meter mountain peaks in the back, other glaciers coming down in side valleys, but disconnected (too short) due to climate change. The path is surrounded by tundra vegetation in beautiful autumn colors. Blue sky with some cumulus forming on the horizon.
