My #AmateurRadio journey continues with making some of my own equipment...
I wanted to be able to connect either an EFHW or an EFRW to my KX3, but move the actual antenna away from the radio, so that I can POTA with other people close enough to talk, while keeping the antennas for the different out of each others' near field so they don't interere. To …

Users hate #AI. So tech made it mandatory. Even if you don't personally use it, it pollutes what you read and how systems make decisions. The computer's hallucinated word is final.
And it steals your data to do it.

My bike is in the shop so I rode the old Raleigh today. It wasn't great.
I did get new tires & tubes, but the shifting is still bad, the brakes not great, hand grips not comfortable, the gearing is blah. I don't think I could take hills with it.
It's a 3 speed but sometimes I just can't get it to shift.
I did just 3 miles around the neighborhood and the chain came off after the first mile. On my Trek I can get the chain on in 15 seconds. This thing took…

The new new case came in for the NES, fits perfectly. Still waiting on the replacement screw kit to come in along with the NES Slotmaster replacement which fixes the biggest issue with the frontloader. Even better: haven't sheared off any of the screws in the case unlike the previous one.

Consider: we came fairly close to extincting the various species crucial to this cycle *AND STILL COULD.*
The problem today isn’t the ongoing symbolic & subsistence whaling, it is that we have ravaged the ocean ecosystem in ways we don’t understand, such as noise pollution.
We really don’t understand enough about the subsystems of the oceans to be fucking with them in the ways we have been during the past century.

"The RDBMS field is so young, we can actually see it grow through the pages of computer magazines of the 1980s. BYTE Magazine had its first issue dedicated to databases in November 1981, and then another one in October 1984. Dr. Dobb’s Journal did not feature an article about databases until 1984 and did not have many more throughout the decade; actually most of them were authored by Gene Head, and talk about dBASE."

the movement of the earth's axis was noticed by the sumerians over six thousand years ago, when they observed the star canopus culminating directly above the horizon, on the southern meridian, for the first time in their oldest and southernmost city eridu. for several decades, canopus wasn't visible in the neighboring northeast town of ur, and therefore, it was called the "star of the city of eridu" in sumerian.
„This loss of income cannot be explained by women's career paths or their exit from the workforce. Nor can it be explained by the very real constraints imposed by the birth of a child.
Not only do heterosexual men not experience any loss of income related to the birth of a child, which might be explained by mothers still being primarily responsible for childcare, but the same is true for both fathers in a same-sex couple.“

Tomorrow, we will dive deeper into ontologies with OWL, the Web Ontology Language. However, I'm doing OWL-lectures now for almost 20 years - and OWL as well as the lecture haven't changed much. So, I'm afraid I'm going to surprise/dissapoint the students tomorrow, when I will switch off the presentation and start improvising a random OWL ontology with them on the blackboard ;-)

On Monday I started a new GitHub repo, to implement a distributed knowledge graph that knows about stuff in houses and how they are related. I used the Claude AI tools and Claude-flow agent framework to write all the code. Got a simplified thing running and cleaned up on Tuesday, built the full functionality on Wednesday and after a bit more testing and documentation wrapped up work before lunch on Thursday. It’s a lot of well tested and documented functionality.

Entirely reasonable.
"Hamas has responded to the latest US-proposed ceasefire with demands for a pathway to a permanent ceasefire, instead of a temporary one where the Israeli government could unilaterally restart hostilities as they did in March.

Everyone thinks #AI can do someone else's job. Designers want to get rid of PMs. PMs think they no longer need devs. Devs can't wait to generate designs. And managers are anticipating getting rid of us all.
Alas, in the few cases the tools work at all, they get you no more than 80% of the way there. Without experts to identify where that 20-100% gap is, you have nothing.

There’ve been articles all over lately, based on a single small (n=55) study that purports to show adverse effects of cannabis use by the elderly. Here’s some evidence to the contrary. A series of studies show improved working memory function with cannabis use for those over 65 years of age. Heading on down to the dispensary as soon as I post this toot. It’s science, friends.
