This mountain is the tallest peak in the Tannheimer Alps, here seen from a narrow ridge path in the north east. It was a fabulous warm day with so many mountain flowers in full bloom and clouds forming/drifting between the passes and nearby peaks, later developing into a heavy thunderstorm (thankfully only when I was already descending again...)

E.J.Hughes only wanted to be left alone to paint. He made hundreds of paintings in his 70 year career and lived long enough to hear on the telephone that one of his paintings fetched over $1m in his lifetime. Not many humans have that experience!
I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview at Emily Carr Uni - and I am very glad we went. Hughes was one of a kind!

I kinda like living among lions (mountain lions). I wish we heard (or saw) them more often. We have plenty of deer for them to eat.
(We have had mountain lions come right up to our front door, and we have heard them - they sound like a cross between a human baby crying and a domestic cat.)

Tectonic Wall
A pretty famous geotope in the Allgäuer Alps with extreme folds and layering. The hundreds of meters thick top layer of mostly Dolomite belongs to the Lech valley thrust sheet (215 million years old) which got pushed above the Allgäu sheet below (190 million years old, here mostly covered by overgrown talus fields) and Radiolarite from the Ruhpolding formation even further below (160 million years old and originally 2000 meter below sea level — hard to imagine!).

A cataract along Boulder Brook in Rocky Mountain National Park. The brook descends from near the top of Storm Peak down to Storm Pass, a spot along Bear Lake Road uphill from Sprague Lake. A trail follows the brook and this spot caught my eye. The brook is about 15’ across and a lot of water is rushing over some rocks throwing up white water the looks silky with a long exposure. A thin log extends from the left edge as though suspended over the water. September 2003

At this point I was already on my way back from the mountain. Next stop was this hut - from there on just some more walk with less elevation back to the car.

Solarization: Most digital photographers only know the effect as Photoshop filter, but here it's happening chemically in the darkroom... Created by extreme overexposure (here ~3x longer of my usual exposure time), the darkest parts of the image have become inverted, which in Kallitype then (temporarily) turns into these amazing orange tones, whilst the mids & highlights remain normal neutral grays, depending on developer used... During fixing and (especially) toning, the orange would…

Remember that weird failed rusty red print I posted on Sunday? Seeing very early on that something went astray with the emulsion coating, I didn't fully develop the print (only dev and clearing, no fixer or toner) and just left it to dry, wanting to see what would happen to it...

Slowly getting into a rhythm to start the day with doing a print each morning, each time still tweaking either negatives, concentrations and/or durations of different processing stages to adjust tones/hues... A new adventure with some back and forth each time!
This print is of Langkofel / Sassolungo, one of my favourite mountain massifs, just such interesting features and so many dear memories, here seen from the east (around half and hour before sunset)...

...on second thought, maybe let's not go to the mountains this weekend. Avalanche danger Level 4 (2nd highest grade) pretty much everywhere. Bit of an unusual sight, but not surprised, we had quite a lot of fresh snow in past three days, and it's getting too warm too quickly...

Made new test prints on some off-cuts, using a slightly stronger developer solution than usual to see impact on max. depth. The main image (Eagle Creek, Oregon) is using 18% sodium acetate (curve corrected negative), the test strips are of 20% and 15% solutions (both uncorrected). The phone capture doesn't really show the differences too well, but I think I will go for the 18-20% from now on...

The mountain nearest to the pass has visible tunnel openings at its base above the talus fields. These are remnants of the frontline from world war I.
