This mountain is the tallest peak in the Tannheimer Alps, here seen from a narrow ridge path in the north east. It was a fabulous warm day with so many mountain flowers in full bloom and clouds forming/drifting between the passes and nearby peaks, later developing into a heavy thunderstorm (thankfully only when I was already descending again...)

#Virga is rain that doesn’t reach the ground. It’s a thing here in the US mountain west. Very cool and photogenic and strikingly dramatic to see in the distance, especially depending on where the sun is when you see it. Rest area on I-55 had this ridiculously blatant #MountainDew knockoff. They even lifted the color scheme. My brain registered it as the real thing, until I looked again. I don’t think I’ve ever come closer to actually confusing one brand for another; wonder how many tired travelers have bought this thinking it was the real thing.

(To one of my favorite places on this planet... We went till the foot of the 1000 meter tall vertical ice fall in the very back, past the beaten paths... #FootpathFriday and belated #ThrowbackThursday time)

A short section of path visible a few hundred meters above a large, but dying glacier. Snow and ice packed 4000 meter mountain peaks in the back, other glaciers coming down in side valleys, but disconnected (too short) due to climate change. The path is surrounded by tundra vegetation in beautiful autumn colors. Blue sky with some cumulus forming on the horizon.

Just got confirmation that I will be documenting and helping with some maintenance works at Breslauer Hütte, before the main season starts. This hut, built in 1882, is one of the oldest high-alpine mountain huts in the eastern Alps, and located just below Wildspitze (3768m), Tyrol's highest mountain.

and climbed into the waste tank in an attempt to retrieve it.
According to Counterman, the man estimated he had been trapped for about eight hours before workers discovered him during their morning inspection.

Two small new prints from this afternoon, this time not Kallitype but contact printing on silver chloride FB paper, developed with Adox MCC. The increase in depth and detail is just wonderful and the feel of the final results an instant throwback to my early darkroom adventures ~40 years ago... 😍
The pictures are of two of my favorite places in recent years. Larger prints will be available for purchase in September.

after surviving a 1,500ft fall down California’s Mount Shasta on Sunday, officials said.

Compared to the more northern areas, the central ridges of the eastern Alps consist of a much larger variety of rocks/minerals with often intense colors. Depending on sun direction, the pyrite (aka fools gold) makes the rocks in the scree fields glisten brightly in the sun...

This second cross-fade is still about Breslauer Hütte and this time the glaciers of the Kreuzkamm (different viewing direction). Two images from the same location, separated by 95-100 years. The year the first image was taken is not clear, but other very similar references are from between 1925-1933. The closest ref is from 1931.
